Syllabus

Personnel Management II forms part of the Degree in Labour Relations syllabus.   

This course is studied in the second term of the second year of the degree and aims to present specific techniques for managing human resources.

Further aims are the in-depth study of the various functions which are carried out within the personnel area of companies and familiarisation with the types of activities and the formulas for analysing and solving the most specific problems in each area.

Topics dealt with include staff structure analysis, staff planning and assessment systems and training and promotion policies.  

The teaching of Personnel Management II is divided into four sections:

  •  The first section analyses the staff structure in companies and planning systems for future staff needs.
  •  The second section analyses policies and procedures for incorporating new employees into the company: candidate recruitment by means of different sources of information, the candidate selection process up to deciding on the most suitable candidate and the incorporation and initial briefing of the new employee.
  • The third section deals with staff development through training activities for the up-dating of professional skills and to analyse potential for promotion.
  •  The fourth section forms part of the process of monitoring staff throughout their working life in a company: performance assessment for the purposes of considering the possibility of improvement and analysis of the motivational aspects which influence integration and commitment.
