Syllabus
"Introduction to Private and Company Law (I)" aims to familiarise Labour Relations students with the main tools for understanding the contents, function, structure and effect of the basic functional rules of what is traditionally known as private law, which is to say, the part of the legal system which is chiefly concerned with the economic and social relationships between individuals and companies.
The course is organised into the following topic-based sections:
a) The first section is concerned with describing private law and its instruments within the Spanish legal system as a whole, including issues of a constitutional and territorial nature. It also makes reference to the instruments for understanding the application of the legal rules of private law and their consequences for the subjective positions of individuals and companies.
b) The second section studies the regime of natural persons and organisations - artificial or legal persons - and their activity in economic and social life. The specific rules relating to different types of legal persons recognised by Spanish private law are not examined exhaustively, but their essential characteristics are presented, with regard to their internal organisation as well as their external activities.
c) The third section provides an overview of the law of obligations and contracts, which is compared with employment contracts. Likewise, the extra-contractual civil liability regime is presented, with special emphasis on accidents in the workplace.
