Syllabus

Employment Law I forms part of the Degree in Labour Relations syllabus.

The course is taught in the second term of the first year of the degree and its aim is to present the introductory aspects of employment and social security law, the legal sources of regulation and the principles of application, introductory notions of employment contracts, the subjects (worker and company owner) and aspects related to intermediation in the labour market.

The course is divided into four sections:

- The first is devoted to introducing the subject and explaining the historical origins of employment law and social security.

- In the second section the sources of employment law, especially international and community rules, state-wide and Autonomous Community rules regarding collective employment agreements and their agreed rules and codes of practice and their uses are analysed. Following on from this, our analysis centres on the principles of applying and interpreting labour regulations.

- The third section is devoted to the subjects of employment contracts: worker and company owner.

- Finally, the fourth section analyses labour relations at individual level, covering employment contracts as well as matters related to intermediation (employment agencies) and the legal regime regarding immigration.
