1. Presentation of the subject
As a subject of the Studies in Audiovisual Communication, Contemporary Art is structured from the links of modern and contemporary currents of the plastic arts, in particular of painting, with its visual correspondences with photography and cinema. The subject goes over the main artistic currents of the 20th century, in particular, the contemporary trends.
2. Competences to be attained
Capacity to analyse modern and contemporary art. Understanding the main movements of modern and postmodern plastic arts. Familiarity with museums and art centres.

1. Modern perception. To see and not to see. The representation of light
2. Modern art rebellions. Schiele, Picasso, Malèvitx, Duchamp
3. Art and anti-art. Geography, sense and pedagogy in modern art
4. Surrealisms, Realisms. In between sub-conscience and the conscience
5. Contemporary perception. Viewer and art
6. Art after war. The second avant-gardes. The "Españas" case
7. Art and society of the show. Market, technology and new concepts
8. The 21st century art map. Geopoetry and creation
4. Assessment
The assessment consists on the final exam and on an assignment. The assignment is individual. Each student has to visit four exhibitions in course and choose an art piece from each one of them, from the pieces given by the teacher, and elaborate a perception and personal critic work of the chosen pieces, one by one or all together. The student will know their assignment grade before the final test. The exam is formulated from the theory. The grade is a median from the assignment and the final exam, but both parts must be passed. If any of the parts is failed, the student will have to repeat the part suspended in September.

5.3. Teaching resources
The subject has an own web page, that allows to follow the program and its examples, as well as to consult an private database, that redirects students to museums, libraries, encyclopaedias, art centres and artists own web sites.
6. Metodology
The course will be carried out through attendance classes and tutorship. In class, the teacher will give the guidelines of the program and will analyse concrete art pieces. In the tutorship, the student will go improving their course assignment.
7. Planning of activities
The subject activities have very present, because of the same characteristic of the course assignment, the museum exhibitions and art centres of Barcelona schedules, as well as of conferences related with these exhibitions. The activities will be programmed depending on these schedules.
