1. Presentation of the subject

 

The artistic creativity has been certainly one of the great issues by the thought in all its different forms since ancient times. The different answers and images specially created for the mystery that entails the act of creation make a true story, which could be reconstructed and interpreted from a cultural perspective as a series of reasons which converge from aspirations to the determinations of each historical period. Whole diachronic reconstructions of this chain as well as a cursory synchronous examination of the main issues mobilized by this chain are the two main objectives for this course.

1. Comprehension and critical interpretation of texts and documents which are mainly conceptual or symbolic.


2. Ability to integrate into their own arguments and explanations materials and ingredients which are from different nature and origin in order to explore and orient themselves in transversality of knowledge.


3. Education of a critical distance and reserves compared the topics or ideas received, to be able to recognize their traditional affiliation and historical nature.

1. Knowledge of the main concepts and categories which are historically related to the phenomenon of artistic creativity.


2. Ability to locate in history and interpret them according to spiritual coordinates of different ages and interpret them as devices where aspirations and wills in a certain period converge.


3. Ability to use and integrate in our understanding and analysis of the witnesses works, materials and ingredients of various nature and origin, as elements that help to define its horizon of meaning, with the cross knowledge in the service of art.

3. Contents

 

- Unit 1: The artist in ancient and medieval worlds. Art and crafts.

- Unit 2: The Renaissance and the myth of the artist. The Lives of artist Vasari to
B. Cellini. The Neo-Platonism: M. Ficino G. Bruno: the rage.

- Unit 3: The artist during the Enlightenment. The Je-ne-sais-quoi-step. The contrast with the Gust. Diderot. The Pre-Romanticism in England: Shaftesbury.

- Unit 4: The genius in the Romantic period. The Pre-Romantic German: Schiller and Herder. Genius and Idealism: Kant, Schelling and Hölderlin. Pathologies of genius.

- Unit 5: The art and bourgeois-capitalist society. The fight against the conventions and the bohemian artist. The modern image of the artist. Public and market.

- Unit 6: The artist in the post-historical period. Art and technology.
