1. Presentation of the subject

 

Catalan literature is an optional subject placed in the itineraries of Literature and Medieval Studies from the degree in Humanities. It provides an overview of the works of most outstanding medieval authors and genres, and they are exemplified by readings and text critics and comments. It is a subject that gives the students who follow the itinerary of Literature or Medieval Studies in Humanities conceptual and methodological knowledge that should be useful and indispensable in their training as a person who knows literary and medieval traditions.

1. Acquire a critical vision from a relevant selection from the authors and the works that constitute the basis of the Catalan literary tradition.

2. Sufficiently know the literary Medieval Language. And know how to read its texts.

3. Identify precisely the elements that constitute the aesthetics of works and authors in several cultural and historical contexts of the Middle Ages.

4. Identify the essential links between the whole Catalan Medieval literary production and the European one.

5. Have clear criteria to analyse and evaluate the texts, which are the objet of the study.

6. Know how to understand and analyse aesthetically the texts from the medieval Catalan literary tradition with a previous search and preparation of the recommended bibliography.

8. Know how to create essayist prose about the works and the authors of the subject.

-           Unit 4. The humanism: Bernat Metge

-           Unit 5. Chivalric novels: Curial e Güelfa, Tirant lo Blanc

-           Unit 6. The lyrics from the XV century: Jordi de Sant Jordi, Ausiàs March, Joan Roís de Corella.
