1. Presentation of the subject
The Sub-Saharan world after the European division and up to our days
Study and interpretation of the fundamental episodes in the history of Africa during the Modern and Contemporary Eras, as well as of their presuppositions and consequences.

Acquiring first-hand knowledge of the main knowledge and analysis sources of Sub-Saharan Africa from the start of their contact with the Europeans. 4. Recognising the academic value and relevance of the history of Sub-Saharan Africa from the start of their contact with the Europeans. 5. 3. Contents
This course is intended as an introduction to the history of the African continent from the European colonisation, with a special stress on the political, economical and cultural processes of the Sub-Saharan societies. There will be a brief introduction on the slave contract and trade, the process of colonial partition, the colonial stability period, the decolonisation, the independent African States and their future challenges in politics and development.
