1. Presentation of the subject

The course offers a study of the main social processes and cultural facts happening in the contemporary world since1945.

•1)      Ability to manage and process information from several sources.

•2)      Ability for analysis and synthesis.

•3)      Put different kinds of reasoning into practice and look for multicasual explanations in order to understand historical facts and evaluate their consequences.

•4)      Know the agents and basic institutions involved in the political and economic organisation in Europe and the world.

•5)      Understand the changes  which are taking place in the economic and social relations worldwide and relate them to their historical background.

•6)      Think critically about some social, historical, political or economic contemporary problems.

 

1) Ability to understand and explain the main historical facts and processes in the world from the end of the Second World War in 1945 until the end of the Cold War with the dissolution of the Soviet Union by the end of 1991.

2) Ability to distinguish and define the main ideological-cultural parameters that characterise the period which started after the Second World War.

3) Ability to periodise the analysed period depending on the most significant changes and transformations.

4) Ability to identify the main power cores in the period, the different mechanisms used to keep them and the established alliances.

5) Ability to identify the main achievements in several areas of the period - political, economic, social, cultural - and to be aware of their limitations when necessary.

6) Ability to distinguish between international, regional and national dynamics and to recognise historical continuities and discontinuities.

7) Ability to distinguish the internal and external different facts which had an influence on the main achievements and dynamics of the period.
