Study of the outstanding historical facts of the history of cinema.

1) Cultural and artistic competence; 2) Understanding how literature, history, art and thought interact; 3) Visual ability to study works of art from different periods and typology; 4) Using technical terms and concepts when describing visual works; 5) Being aware of the diversity of iconic, symbolic and illustrative languages of 20th-century artistic expressions; 6) Identifying the main authors, films and movements of the history of cinema.  

3. Contents

Unit 1. Introduction. Cinema's poetics and semiotics. Art and popular culture.

Unit 2. Avant-garde film: German Expressionism, Russian avant-garde, Dadaism and Surrealism.

Unit 3. Forms of Realism: Renoir and the Italian Neo-Realism.

Unit 4. The Nouvelle Vague and the deconstruction of the cinematographic discourse.

Unit 5. Looking at the individual: psychological cinema.

Unit 6. Society's image: political cinema.

Unit 7. The cinema of poetry and the image of desire. Conclusions.
