The course is dealing with a management approach to Human Resource Management. This approach is interdisciplinary, using insights from psychology, sociology and management sciences, among others. Students will learn about theoretical foundations, but also discuss practical implications of important HRM topics, such as:
Tema 1. Human Resource Planning
Tema 2. Selection and Hiring
Tema 3. Compensation and Motivation
Tema 4. Managing Performance
Tema 5. Training and Development
Tema 6. Employee Separation
Tema 7. Diversity Management
Tema 8. International Human Resource Management
In addition, we will take a closer look at some tools and techniques that are relevant when dealing with HR issues:
• Performance Evaluation: Construct an evaluation tool.
• Interview / Interview Skills: Conduct an effective interview.
• Presentation / Presentation Skills: Make a convincing presentation.
During the term, students will do a group assignment. They will interview a Human Resource Manager, to learn about the issues covered in class from a more practical perspective, and to practice the techniques mentioned above.
The course consists of lectures, class discussions, a group assignment (interview project and presentation of findings) and case studies (discussed in the practice meetings). Grading is based on the group assignment, the case studies and the written exam.
