Metodologia

docent

This course comprises two terms. Students will get a single final grade in June based on the grades obtained in each term.

The course is worth 8 ECTS (4 per term). 4 ECTS involve 100 hours of student work, 25 devoted to in-class sessions and the rest to individual work. There are two types of in-class sessions:

  • GGran (GG): these are devoted to the discussion of the grammar contents and to practice activities.
  • GSeminar (GS): these are devoted to the improvement of the four basic skills.

Individual work will be devoted to:

- tasks proposed by the GG instructors

- tasks proposed by the GS instructors

- Self-study of English through additional materials

Avaluació

Ordinària

  • Exams: First Term exam (March) and Second Term exam (June) that will assess the academic component ("theory"): 30% of the final mark. Students must take and pass both exams.
  • Continuous assessment: 50% of the mark, as follows:

+ Grup Gran: 20%: Grammar essay questions and/or preparatory activities, etc. Students must do the work for each term.

+ Seminari: 30%: Students must do the work assigned each term.

  • Language competence test: By the end of Idioma 5/6, students are expected to have a C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Language competence will be assessed by means of a test or set of tests. The results for this test or set of tests will be worth 20% of the final mark only if a pass is obtained. Please note that these specific language competence tests do not replace UPF's "PCCL" (Prova Certificadora de Competència Lingüística). Students are strongly advised to take the PCCL as well, as this is the only examination with certifying effects at the UPF level. The PCCL, however, tests your competence at a lower CEFR level (B2).
  • NOTE that all three items will have to be individually passed in order to pass the course.

Extraordinària (setembre)

  • Exam: It will assess the academic content of the "grup gran" and the "seminari" for both the First Term and the Second Term (70% of the grade)
  • Language competence test: Defined as above; worth 30% of the grade.
