CONTINGUT
The goals of this course are to develop your understanding of the way complex propositional relations are expressed in English and the way information is structured.
PROGRAMA
Week 1: Punctuation.
Week 2: Information packaging.
Week 3: Intonation, ellipsis, pronominalization, and information packaging.
Week 4: Word order: clefts, fronting, postposing.
Week 5: Word order: passives, there-sentences, inversion.
Week 6: Coordination strategies.
Week 7: Clause combining: additive relations.
Week 8: Clause combining: contrastive, concessive, and exceptive relations.
Week 9: Clause combining: cause, purpose, and result relations.
Week 10: Clause combining: conditional relations
AVALUACIĶ
Tasques fetes durant el curs: (30%) i examen final (70%).
