TEMA
This class is an introduction to literary translation of narrative into English. We will work with texts originally written in Catalan by Montserrat Roig, Pere Calders, Manuel de Pedrolo, Joan Fuster, and Marta Pessarrodona. Students are expected to produce written translations every week, which are the basis for class discussion.
PROGRAMA
Translation of pragmatic information into English.
Order of adjectives in descriptive English.
Conventions of written English. Punctuation.
Word-formation strategies used in English writing.
AVALUACIÓ
3 written translations of approximately 700 words assigned during
the course 60%.
Final project: 1 short story originally written in Catalan
translated into English. The story must be approved by the teacher.
Short presentation of the translation in class.
