The goals of this course are to give the students a view of some topics on the current economic theory of business policy. It provides a mix of theoretical economic modeling with applications and empirical evidence. The final objective for this course is to relate the current economic theory with real life business cases: to engage your curiosity about "What’s going on out there?".

Introduction to Game Theory and Business Strategy. Nash equilibrium. Mixed and continuous strategies. Prisoner’s dilemma. Information. Sequential games and subgame perfection. Discounting. Repeated games. Folk Theorem. Reputation and commitment. Bargaining: the Nash Bargaining solution. Applications of Game Theory in Business Policy.

Tema 2

Established Theories of the Firm. Transaction Cost Theories. Economic Analysis of Property Rights. Conflicts over Property Rights. The Property Rights Approach to the Nature of the Firm.

Tema 3

Contractual problems. Economic Theory of Contracts. Breach of Contracts. The Incomplete Contracting Model. Renegotiation. Individuals, Teams and Hierarchies. Economic Theory of Hierarchies.

Tema 4

Disclosure of Information. Quality assurance.

Tema 5

Economic Theory of Regulation and Politics of Regulation. Monitoring and Collusion Effect. Regulatory Capture. Industrial Regulation and Industrial Policy.
